Schooner Creek Discovery Park, located at 4815 SE 51st Street in Lincoln City OR, spans 6.71-acres and is the #1 priority of the 2016 Lincoln City Parks System Plan and will address a recreation gap in Lincoln City.

The park will feature several firsts for Lincoln City and the Coast, including the first inclusive and accessible public playground, the first permanent outdoor pickleball courts, the first covered multi-sports court, and the first public turfed multi-sport field. Additionally, the park will have a special event stage and lawn, picnic shelters, an open space trail, and more.

Involving the community in the design process for this new park was a high priority! To see how this process evolved, the design boards are included here, to the right.

Schooner Creek Discovery Park Playground - Phase 1

Phase 1 of this 3-phased park project, the 1st inclusive and accessible public playground on the Oregon Coast, opened on December 14, 2024.

Designed to promote play, this inclusive playground offers people of differing abilities, ages, and communities the same platform to play, while breaking down barriers, both physically and socially. Inclusive playgrounds go above and beyond the minimum standards of accessibility to promote a truly inclusive experience so every person at the playground feels like they belong.

Inclusive equipment includes benches that have companion seats for people in wheelchairs; accessible surfacing throughout playground; on the play hill, an accessible path to the top, and accessible slide with dignity landing; on the climber, a transfer station at the base with accessible belt climbers to access higher levels; a rope nest swing and other inclusive swings with varying challenges; non-verbal communication boards; cozy spots, logs, wood domes: offering quiet spaces to take a break; communication boards; musical instruments which are accessible and engaging to the senses and much more!

Schooner Creek Discovery Park - Phase 2

Phase 2 design is well underway! Construction will begin in May 2025, with completion expected in Fall 2025.

This phase will also include an entry plaza, promenade, covered picnic shelters, special event stage and flexible lawn area with hearing loops, an art mural, and ADA gender-neutral restrooms with a universal changing table.

The park entry plaza will be a welcoming and attractive space for community members to spend time. The plaza space will be landscaped to create a destination in itself where visitors can sit and relax or socialize. Commemorative pavers and a donor wall will remind visitors of shared connections within the community and will acknowledge those who have contributed to the park's creation and upkeep.

Schooner Creek Discovery Park - Phase 3

Phase 3 design will start in Fall of 2025 with construction expected to be completed by Fall 2026.

Phase 3 amenities will include a covered multi-sports court, permanent pickleball courts, turfed multi-sports field, and walking paths.
